Once again at Wicked Faire and hosted the Chrononauts parade. Unlike the fashion show, this is a chance for anyone at the event to walk in front of the assembled crowd and show off their outfits and hard work. Generally, anything steampunk or victorian inspired is allowed.
I think about 35 people walked this year. Everyone is divided into 3 groups: individual men, individual woman, and groups. Then there are prizes for the best in each category, so its still encouraged to show up in the best you have.
This year had a few problems. There was some mix up in the scheduling, resulting in not having the setup that we were expecting. For me, this meant that lighting was not up to what I expected, but I made do regardless. Once that was straightened out, things got under way.
It was a good time. Part of the fun of putting together a great costume or outfit is the chance to show it off. This gives any the chance to have a few moments in front of the crowd, and to show off their creativity. We even had a girl on roller skates this year.
I’ll be attending the Wicked Winter Renaissance Faire this weekend in Whippany, NJ
Ok, It is a Renaissance faire type of event that’s indoors because it happens in the winter, but it’s also a whole lot more than that. It’s become a larger mix of performers, vendors, and well, interesting people. I’ve attended two of the past three, and they have been a lot of fun.
There is also a very large Steampunk area this year. This is where I will be spending a lot of my time.
Included in this mix is a very special guest appearance of Terrance Zdunich, of fame. What, you haven’t seen it? Shame on you.
I spent Valentine’s day away from my computer with my better half, but still wanted to say something on topic about it. So how about the question of “Who says geeks can’t be sexy? ” Now, I know this has been floating around and already hit a number of of the big sites, but seemed to fit the bill. I present to you,
Hmm..I think this topic will need to be explored more fully in the future…
Oh, and a thought to my friends on etsy that have been trying to get more exposure. Create something like this. The amount of free publicity this seller got over the last few days is staggering.
I found a great post about industrial photography in Japan at through Boingboing. Somehow these shots end up being both beauttiful and haunting.
Though these are modern places, you can get a lot of steampunk inspiration from these. And as a gamer. I can really see the inspiration for some of the final fantasy stuff in these places. I wonder if the original team for FF VII looked here.
You’ll need to follow the links to the photosets on flickr.
Welcome! I’m starting up this new site for my photography work and mad ramblings. With such topics as photography, costuming, anime and sci-fi conventions, the steampunk movement, and a point where they all coincide. I plan to update new work as it gets completed, and pull from my library built up over the last few years. I hope it will be interesting enough for you to take a ride along with me.
