I need to license this shot to Guinness
These kinds of shoot are often the best. Everything was relatively spontaneous, or at least we were planning it out as the shoot progressed. Ideas get tossed around. “We’re in a bar, we need to do a fight scene!” (Those pics are coming). It also seemed to be a lot of fun for the pub’s patrons. While many where con goers, some definitely weren’t. The table next to us were having a great time and snapping picks of the whole affair.
Lots of stuff goes on at this Tavern apparently. Arm wrestling is common. I’ve heard this gentleman has never been beaten. Or spilled his drink.
Though apparently they still part as good sports.

One more photo post from the vaults before Wicked Faire. These are also from Anime Next 2008, posted up to Flickr last week. On Friday of the con, I met up with Carrie, also known online as NeoAngelWink, who was wearing her Rockstar Mikuru outfit from the anime
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. (Yea, say that 5 times fast.) We did a small shoot outdoors before she had to run off to some panels.
You will be seeing more sets of her that I have taken, and hopefully will continue to take, over time.

It’s always fun to experiment with different ideas and techniques. This shot was taken at night of a Jedi costumer. It was a hand held shot, with the only light coming from the Master Replica lightsaber a few inches from her face.

I think this is a nice example of how we can alter photos in very simple ways to express a certain moods or emotions. The only difference between the two photos is the color saturation Since we cannot see the girl’s face, we have to rely on other clues in the photo. The colors become even more important and start to reflect her mood. In the first one It’s a bright and sunny day out, and she seems happy or content. In the second photo her mood becomes more mellow. The overcast and desaturated colors suggest reflection or contemplation, perhaps even loss. One photo. Two very different feelings.
I ‘m considering offering this shot as print, but still haven’t decided which version.

It is always impressive to watch when a large group of steampunk and Victorian costumers gather in one place. To take this one step further, Evelyn Kreite of Jaborwhalky.net and steampunk author G.D. Falksen organized the First Chrononauts parade at the Wicked Winter Renaissance Fair last year. It gives the participants a chance to show off their hard work and amazing outfits, and give the attendees a chance to see a lot of those amazing people and outfits in one place. The second one took place at Salon Con, where I had the honor of being the primary photographer.

Each participant is given the opportunity to walk the aisle, and show off for the crowd.

Some take the opportunity to perform for the crowd. The good doctor took the chance to display his mechanical heart for all to see. When it stopped working he went into the crowd for a replacement.
The steampunk jedi also put up a good fight, though onceagain sitting in the front row may not have been the best place to be.

]]>OVerall it wasn’t my best day, thanks to the weather. Because everyone had to move inside the small tent I didn’t have the space I needed, and somewhere along the line I missed that I needed to bring my own table and chairs, so I really couldn’t set up any material.
But I made the best of the day and still managed to get a few good portraits.
One of my regular conventions is Anime Next held in the summer in New Jersey. When my good friend and occasional model Sunseenli told me should would finally be wearing her Chun Li outfit at the same time I would be present, we quickly planned a photoshoot.
I had been looking to do this set for some time. Being an old scool gamer, I cut my fighting game teeth on a relatively new console at the time, Street Fighter II. As I found that quick and nimble characters worked best with my style, Chun Li became my primary character. I spent a lot of time playing street fighter with friends at the time.
We ended up shooting a more relaxed and playful set. Less fighting poses, more glamour style.
I think they came out really well. Don’t you?
